Comic Con 08 Preview Night
Wow, preview night was so cool.
Today my friend and I flew into San Diego and we wandered around for a while checking out the Gaslamp area and the convention center. First impressions: the weather is beautiful and the women are even more beautiful. Where I live, it’s rainy half the time and you can’t see beautiful women because fat people are in the way.
After we were finally able to check in we went the convention center and got in the registration line, which is HUGE btw. It moved fast though and soon enough we had our badges and swag bags. Next we moved on to one of two other lines for getting into the exhibit hall. I started to get worried by the number of people and the size of the lines, but as long as I can get into the panels that I want to see I wont be mad.
As it turned 6 the line started moving, there we cheers, and everyone was making their way into the exhibit hall. The hall sure did exceed expectations. I have to assume the area I walked into was like what a mini E3 would be like, it was all games, playable demos, and stuff to look forward to.
In this area I made my way to the Lucasarts booth where they had three stations for The Force Unleashed, which is amazing looking. While waiting in a short line I briefly saw XPlays Adam Sessler talking to one of the PR guys. When the time came to play TFU, I tore up, the force powers you have and the physics engine are so much fun. It looks like such a better game then Jedi Academy. I killed an AT-ST that a lot of people ahead of me were having trouble with and then the demo was over. Too short, but it did it’s job since I’m getting TFU on launch day.
I continued wandering around like a gambling addict in Vegas, wide eyed, jaw dropped and staring up at all the pretty lights and posters, until I ran into some friends from the internet. I had run aground at the place where The Totally Rad Show and iFanboy members were hanging out. I ran up, shook hands, and chatted a little. They are all very down to earth and seem to really love their fans. I can’t wait to go to the live TRS show on Thursday and the meetup afterward.
The night wasn’t over, but nothing else major happened besides seeing some people at booths and on the floor. I saw Jacen Burrows at the Avatar booth, Mike and Jerry at the Penny Arcade booth, Lou Ferigno signing autographs, and Ed Brubaker at the Marvel booth. Overall it was a great day, and I’m surprised that Preview Night was so big and open. I should be able to focus on going to panels over the next couple days since there isn’t too much that I want to buy from the exhibit hall.
I’d add links to this post, but I’m too lazy, but I’ll add photos to flickr later.
